We continue today on the theme of funk. After last week’s faux James Browns, here are the faux Jacksons.

Folder 5

Does the name evoke you something? It does, right? Just listen to the following song and it will become instantly clear…

I Want You back by the group Jackson 5 Folder 5. I may sound sarcastic but I genuinely find the interpretation nice. These ladies sing well, dance well, what else can we ask?

Oh yes, these are indeed “ladies”, which the quality of the video doesn’t allow to see at first glance. On the other hand, you can clearly see 7 people so what’s the deal? Shouldn’t they be named Folder Seven instead?

• Lousy theory #1 : Folder Seven sounds like S Club 7, that pop group from the early 2000s fell into anonymity. And being associated with S club 7 is less “kakkoii”* than being associated with Jackson Five, I guess. So let’s admit without further investigation that they’re 5 members with 2 back up dancers…
• Lousy theory #2 : I don’t want to sound mean but sometimes, Japanese do thing beyond comprehension… So let’s admit without further investigation that they’re 5 members with 2 back up dancers…

Apart from that, the group was renamed Folder (without the 5) and make corny Jpop. Enthusiasts take note.

Well, the Jackson 5 are Black with an Afro cut while the Fingers 5 are Asian with straight hair. Is that it?

Eeeeeer no. The major difference comes from the fact that the Finger 5 are composed of 4 boys and a girl, while the Jackson 5 are guys only. Here you go. No, don’t say a word…
