FUNKY MONDAY | #10 Da「Morning Glory is the Samurai’s Péché Mignon」playlist

Smile it’s Monday. Today’s Funky Monday’s title can be viewed as poetic, enigmatic or twisted : it’s up to you...

For my part, I already picture the lone ronin, wandering in the plains and verdant valleys. He’s walking barefoot, in the grass at dawn, when the earth exhales all its benefits.

This soft and fresh little note slightly contrasts with what follows. On today’s menu, a rather unusual group, Jazztronik, whose creations have been living in my Ipod for a few years now. I save the exhaustive presentation of the artist for another day ; in the meantime, I leave you with three tracks, three atmospheres… (and a shorter article, for a change).

The Morning Glory : アオイアサガオ (Aoi Asagao)

.
Curious blend for a vivid result : the singer’s sweet and sparkling voice, melancholic lyrics and finally, a sound at the crossroads of electro and samba.

By the way, the morning glory is a flower… Piece of information put randomly.

Péché Mignon

.
Second track of the drama “Real Clothes” original sound track. I love everything in this tune !

First the name, “péché mignon” : this french expression is the equivalent of guilty pleasure and generally refers to food with ingredients high in fat and/or sugar and/or salt (…shout out to sour candies). Anyway, the song’s title sounds sweet and makes me think of something sweet.

Its length, barely 2 min 30 so you can play it on a loop  without bing sick of it (it will happen eventually, though…).

At last, the joyful and broadway-ish atmosphere that comes from it… The smile comes instantly, you feel ten feet tall, you are transported in a musical of which you are the main character. You see life in candy-pink, you want to sing, dance and go down the stairs Fred Astair style

This track allowed Jazztronik to gain a huge international exposure and, of course, a phenomenal success. A guy playing with his piano, a powerful beat, a guy who says “wap wap”, a hint of electro-house, a touch of hip hop, jazz… Just fresh and fine.

That’s it! Now you understang the title. Wish you an excellent Monday… Wap wap!
